Winter…

This is my farewell to the winter…it has been a prickly one 😉

…where I learned a lot of things I did not expect to learn. The most important learning was that even if you are self-employed and love your ‘work’ (passion), it does not make you invincible – or maybe it even makes you more vulnerable…

It all began with a pretty nasty flu in December and with me thinking I could just ignore that as there were so many things I rather wanted an needed to do…bad idea…

I won’t go into the details of the following downward spiral of no rest, weakening immune system, no exercise, not being able to get up or out, feeling bad about not getting things done, eating too much and the wrong things like snacks, pizza and whatever was easy and comforting, lots of displacement activities, depression, missing drive and inspiration, feeling even more inadequate, infection after infection…

So here I am – 3 months later – trying to slowly establish a healthier balance between my creative soul, the right and left side of my brain 😉 and the body I have at best ignored for too many years. I definitely learned my lesson – the hard way!

But enough of that, let’s focus on the coming spring by saying farewell to the winter with a few pictures and a little poem I wrote 🙂

The beds are made –

under a cold blanket

the Earth rests…

Hi Isabel. I suffer from these same feelings at times. My solutions getting out of the funk are these. 1) Go out and do something for another person, asking nothing in return. It could be giving a print or a letter expressing gratitude, something similar. This is the best remedy. 2) Go out for a walk with the camera, sit somewhere peaceful and enjoy the surroundings. Take a picture of something or someone that moves you.

Thank you, Louis. That are 2 very good ways to get your mood up again which I actually know from own experience ;-)
I just gave two of my big framed prints away for free, one of them to a school Tombola at my nephew’s school. Luckily the second one is quite easy as our garden is already the perfect place to find peace. I am glad that they also work for you - so nice to find people who understand :-) Have a wonderful day!

I am sure the rest of year will be so much better especially with all the new knowledge I have now. Thank you so much, John

Beautifully expressed as usual and the images are wonderful. Glad to hear you are finding your way back to healthier ways after this challenging winter. I've gone through almost identical feelings and actions since December and have been shedding both physical and emotional weight I collected on my journey ;-) Here's to a lighter spring.

I have only just started with the physical weight, somehow I needed to get the emotional one off first before now focussing on the rest.
Just looking at my shopping from this morning with all the healthy things makes me feel so much better and I actually know that I will enjoy them more than all the other things ;-)
Yes - that is a perfect 'slogan' - to a lighter spring! :-)
I will also get some extra motion when the new puppy moves in with us in 3 weeks :-D
